Collins Foods Advances Strategic Exit from Taco Bell in Australia
Collins Foods Limited (ASX: CKF) has entered a conditional agreement to transition 20 of its 27 Taco Bell restaurants in Australia to a new partnership involving Taco Bell (YUM! Brands) and Restaurant Brands Australia. This move supports the company’s broader plan to withdraw from the Taco Bell segment while strengthening its emphasis on the KFC brand across key regions, including Australia and Europe, with a growing focus on Germany.
The transaction includes a nominal purchase price, transfer of employees, and the assumption of lease liabilities by the new operators. Additionally, Collins Foods will be compensated for operating losses and capital expenditure incurred from April 2026 until completion, which is expected between June and August 2026, subject to approvals. The remaining seven Taco Bell outlets will be closed, with efforts underway to reassign leases. Financially, the move is expected to eliminate ongoing losses, remove royalty obligations, and reverse approximately $24 million in lease liabilities, though one-off closure costs of around AU$1–2 million are anticipated.
