Suncorp Strengthens Resilience with New Reinsurance Strategy

Suncorp Group Limited (ASX: SUN) has secured a five-year aggregate reinsurance agreement commencing June 2026, providing AU$800 million annual protection and up to AU$2.4 billion total coverage. This initiative enhances financial resilience against natural hazard volatility while maintaining the underlying margin at the upper end of the 10–12% range. The attachment point for FY27 is set at AU$1,850 million, aligning closely with expected natural hazard allowances, and is designed to cap costs in most scenarios. The arrangement is expected to reduce earnings volatility and release approximately AU$100 million in capital.

For FY26, Suncorp anticipates underlying insurance trading ratio to remain at the higher end of its target range, despite natural hazard costs exceeding allowances by around AU$250 million. Gross written premium growth is expected at approximately 3%, impacted by currency weakness and portfolio adjustments. Overall, the company maintains its outlook while reinforcing long-term stability.
