St Barbara Limited (ASX: SBM) has given the go-ahead to restart its Touquoy gold operation in Nova Scotia after approving the final investment decision. This milestone follows regulatory approval for revised environmental permit conditions, clearing the path for operational revival. Alongside this, the company has entered into agreements with two local contractors, Alva Construction and MacGregor’s Industrial, to assist with site activities during the restart phase.
The project is expected to support regional development by creating close to 200 employment opportunities, particularly in rural communities, while also contributing to the province’s economic output. Management emphasised that the restart highlights confidence in Nova Scotia’s resource sector and reflects a balanced approach toward economic growth and environmental stewardship. The company is targeting the resumption of ore processing operations by the end of 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening its production pipeline.
