Global Factors influencing ASX stocks on 15 February 2023

On 15 February 2023, at AEDT 1:35 PM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading lower today, declining 90.70 points or 1.22%, and is currently trading at 7,340.20 levels. Out of 11 sectors,7 sectors are trading lower along with the S&P/ASX 200. The Financial and Consumer Staples were the top 2 declining sectors, declining 3.55% and 0.98% in their index values.

On that note, let us look at a few global reasons impacting the stock market today:

1. Some of the key U.S. indices ended higher and some ended lower in their previous session. NASDAQ Composite and NASDAQ-100 gained 0.57% and 0.71% respectively while Dow industrial and S&P 500 declined 0.46% and 0.03% respectively.

2. Oil prices traded in a flat-to-low range as mixed U.S. inflation data raised concerns about monetary policy challenges this year.

3. Gold prices moved little today as mixed inflation statistics for January fuelled some uncertainty about the US economy and the path of monetary policy.

4. The dollar gained some support on Wednesday as stubbornly high US inflation signalled interest rates would remain high for longer than investors had anticipated.

5. Hang Seng is down by 1.62%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.08%.
