ABS reports 11.4% growth in household spending

On 10 January 2023, ABS released an announcement and reported a 11.4% growth in household spending in November 2022 compared to the previous corresponding period. November 2022 was the 21st consecutive month of increased through-the-year total household spending, with most spending categories recording increases.

The highest increases were in spending in:

  • Transport: 35.8%
  • Hotels, cafes and restaurants: 23.8%.

On the other hand, spending in furnishing and household equipment declined 7% compared to November 2021, driven by strong post-lockdown expenditure in this category in November 2021.
