Factors influencing the market-

  • The S&P/ASX 200 saw gains today as investors flocked to major mining and banking stocks, which helped counterbalance growing expectations of an interest rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia next week. This upward movement came after the Australian dollar surged to US71.70¢, and bond yields climbed following hawkish remarks from RBA Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser on Tuesday. His comments led traders to increase their bets on a potential rate rise on March 17.
  • Energy sector reversed their earlier gains as oil prices declined, following a report that the International Energy Agency had suggested the largest release of oil reserves in its history.
  • DroneShield Limited’s shares gained after announcing the establishment of its counter-drone manufacturing facility in the European Union, marking a significant expansion of its industrial presence and manufacturing capacity in the region.
  • GQG Partners saw a 6% decline as it reported net outflows of $3.2 billion for February, despite an increase in funds under management, which reached $172.9 billion (or $242.9 billion).
  • Macquarie Technology Group rose by 3% after securing a $200 million hybrid investment from the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation to support the growth of sovereign digital infrastructure and cybersecurity services.
  • The Dow Jones closed down by 0.07%, S&P 500 declined by 0.21% and Nasdaq was up by 0.01% in the previous session.
  • Hang Seng is up by 0.35%, and FTSE 100 is up by 1.59%.
