West African Resources to Divest 25% Kiaka Stake Following Government Decree
West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) has reported that the Government of Burkina Faso has issued a decree to acquire a 25% equity interest in the Kiaka Gold Project for approximately AU$175 million, providing clarity on the project’s ownership structure. The acquisition will be executed through the state-owned entity SOPAMIB, with discussions underway to finalise transaction terms, targeted for completion by the end of calendar year 2026.
The Company indicated that proceeds from the sale of the 25% stake are intended to be returned to shareholders via a special dividend, reinforcing capital management discipline. Importantly, the decree applies solely to the Kiaka operation, with no impact on WAF’s Sanbrado and Toega assets. The development removes uncertainty around government participation and supports a framework for potential long-term collaboration on future projects, while maintaining operational continuity across WAF’s broader portfolio.
