Qatar Investment Authority Adjusts Stake in Virgin Australia
Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (ASX: VGN) has received a formal notice of change in substantial shareholding from Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and its controlled entities, including Qatar Airways Investments (UK) Limited and Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C.
As of 2 March 2026, QIA’s voting power in Virgin Australia decreased from 69.79% to 67.74%, with total votes attached to 529,039,288 ordinary shares. The change reflects an adjustment in the nature of QIA’s relevant interests following the release of certain shares from voluntary escrow arrangements. Specifically, portions of escrowed shares issued under legacy replacement prospectuses were released, resulting in a reclassification of relevant interests rather than a direct disposal of shares.
Following the change, QIA and its associated entities continue to maintain substantial relevant interests under the Corporations Act 2001. No changes in association were reported in the filing. The filing was formally authorised and signed by Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Investment Authority.
