Perpetual Achieves Major Silica Purity Upgrade at Beharra Project Through ANZAPLAN Test Work
Perpetual Resources Limited (ASX: PEC) has reported encouraging metallurgical test work results from its Beharra Silica Sand Project in Western Australia, demonstrating the project’s ability to produce significantly lower-impurity silica products using conventional processing methods. Independent German laboratory ANZAPLAN successfully reduced iron (Fe₂O₃) content from approximately 760ppm in raw silica sand to around 110–120ppm in the processed product, marking a substantial improvement compared to previous test work results of approximately 150ppm Fe₂O₃.
The upgraded silica product was achieved consistently across several beneficiation pathways, including gravity separation, flotation and high-gradient magnetic separation, using a simplified low-cost flowsheet. Management highlighted that the achieved impurity profile positions Beharra within specifications for premium glass applications such as white float, crystal and specialty glass products, while also nearing the sub-100ppm threshold typically required for solar glass markets.
ANZAPLAN has recommended additional variability testing, mineralogical analysis and further optimisation studies to evaluate opportunities for even lower impurity levels and broader product qualification. Perpetual noted that the strong metallurgical outcomes support a potentially robust and commercially attractive development pathway for the Beharra Project within the growing global high-purity silica market.
