Fortuna Metals Unveils Major Rutile-Graphite Discovery at Mkanda, Malawi

Fortuna Metals Limited (ASX: FUN) has released its first Mineral Resource Estimate for the Mkanda Project in Malawi, revealing 298 million tonnes grading 0.87% rutile and 1.19% total graphitic carbon at a 0.7% cut-off. A higher-grade section totals 159 million tonnes at 0.98% rutile and 1.11% graphite. This positions Mkanda among the six largest rutile deposits worldwide, based on comparable industry projects. The mineralisation sits close to surface within soft, easily mined weathered ground, averaging just 8.4 metres deep from hand-auger drilling. Deeper aircore drilling is now underway to explore extensions, with new results expected later in 2026. Encouraging intercepts at the Kahuna zone, including 10 metres at 1.43% rutile, are yet to be folded into the estimate. Laboratory work has confirmed a high-purity 96.6% titanium dioxide product, while the company continues assessing possible zircon and monazite by-products alongside ongoing pilot-scale and marketing studies.
