Fortescue (ASX:FMG) shares in focus on exceptional NPAT numbers in FY22

Fortescue Metals Group Limited has announced its FY22 full-year results today (29 August 2022).

During the period, the company delivered a net profit after tax (NPAT) of US$6.2 billion, the second highest annual profit in Fortescue’s history.

Fortescue’s FY22 results stated:

• Record shipments of 189 million tonnes exceeded the top end of guidance.
• Underlying EBITDA of US$10.6 billion with an Underlying EBITDA margin of 61%
• Net profit after tax (NPAT) of US$6.2 billion and earnings per share of US$2.01 (AU$2.77)
• Net cash flow from operating activities of US$6.6 billion, and free cash flow of US$3.6 billion after capital expenditure of US$3.1 billion
• Fully franked final dividend of AU$1.21 per share, increasing total dividends declared in FY22 to AU$2.07 per share, equating to AU$6.4 billion and a 75% payout of NPAT.
• A robust balance sheet with US$5.2 billion as cash on hand and net debt of US$0.9 billion as of 30 June 2022
• Revenue of US$17.4 billion decreased 22% compared to FY21.
