As per ACCC’s latest quarterly petrol monitoring report, the average retail prices dropped by 10.3 cents per litre in September 2022 quarter for the first time in 2 years in Australia’s five largest cities. The drop in petrol prices was due to 34% fall in international refined petrol prices. The monthly average Mogas 95 prices declined from 138.7 cents per litre in June 2022 to 91.6 cents per litre in September 2022.
The average petrol prices also declined in the smaller capital cities during September 2022 quarter. In Hobart the average petrol prices declined by 10.5 cents per litre, in Darwin by 3.4 cents per litre and Canberra by 1.3 cents per litre, though prices remained generally more than in the five larger capitals.
Average retail petrol prices in regional locations decreased by 6.2 cents per litre to 186.9 cents per litre in September 2022 quarter. The regional prices were 9.2 cents per litre above average prices in the five largest cities.
