Queen Elizabeth II, the UKs longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96

Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom's longest-serving monarch, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she had spent much of the summer. The Queen has been affected by persistent health issues since October 2021 that left her with difficulties in walking and standing.

In 2015, she became the longest-serving British monarch, surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria as well as this year, she became the world's second longest reigning monarch. The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and has seen various social changes. With the Queen's death, her son Charles now becomes the King; however, the coronation might not occur for months.
