Bayan Secures Exclusive Colorado School of Mines Licence, Strengthening Its Position in the U.S. Rare Earth Supply Chain.
Bayan Mining and Minerals Limited (ASX: BMM) has secured an exclusive global licence from the Colorado School of Mines for four advanced rare earth processing technologies, marking a major strategic milestone. These patented systems—covering beneficiation, single-stage bastnaesite leaching, resin-based separation and ancylite recovery—were developed using material from MP Materials’ Mountain Pass deposit, located just a few kilometres from Bayan’s Desert Star Project. The technologies target higher recoveries, lower reagent use and better efficiency across complex or ultra-fine material, offering Bayan a tailored pathway to enhance project economics and competitiveness.
Supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Critical Materials initiatives, this licence aligns Bayan with accelerating U.S. efforts to onshore rare earth processing and build a resilient mine-to-magnet supply chain. The agreement positions Desert Star as a potential future hub for high-efficiency rare earth processing, while ongoing R&D collaboration with Mines will guide integration of the technologies into Bayan’s development strategy.
