Bowen Coking Coal Limited (ASX: BCB) announced that the Department of climate change, energy, environment, and Water grants official approval to Bowen Coking Coal's Isaac River Project. This approval grants permission for the construction and operation of the new Isaac River Coal Mine, situated 28 kilometers east of Moranbah in the Bowen Basin, Central Queensland. Once operational, the Isaac River Project aims to produce high-quality metallurgical coal, yielding up to 500,000 tonnes annually over a period of approximately five years.
Notably, the proposed mine is adjacent to BMA's Daunia Mine. After a comprehensive two-year environmental assessment process, technical studies concluded in 2019 that the project would not have significant adverse impacts on air, noise, soil, surface water, geochemical composition, or groundwater. The EPBC approval entails measures to offset potential impacts on ornamental snake habitat and includes provisions for ongoing surface and groundwater monitoring.
