Factors influencing the market-

  • The Australian share market reversed earlier gains today, as fresh concerns about the impact of AI led to heavy selling in tech stocks, overshadowing gains in mining. Meanwhile, gold rose 2.5% to US$5,241.24 an ounce, and silver surged past US$88, amid continued market uncertainty following US President Donald Trump’s new round of tariffs.
  • Monadelphous surged by 12.96% after reporting a record half-year revenue of $1.53 billion, surpassing analyst expectations, and providing an upgraded guidance of 30%, which was also better than forecasted.
  • Woodside Energy gained 1% despite a 24% drop in its full-year profit to US$2.72 billion, which slightly exceeded estimates. The company also remained on track to appoint a permanent CEO this quarter, following the departure of Meg O'Neill to BP.
  • Adore Beauty, however, saw a sharp decline of 15%, even though it confirmed its full-year guidance after posting strong sales and underlying earnings growth in the first half, driven by store openings and increased sales of its own-brand products.
  • The Dow Jones closed down by 1.66%, S&P 500 declined by 1.04% and Nasdaq was down by 1.13% in the previous session.
  • Hang Seng is down by 1.22%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.02%.
