Global Factors influencing ASX stocks on 21 December 2022

On 21 December 2022, at AEDT 12:30 PM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gained 101.20 points or 1.44%, and is currently trading at 7,125.50 levels. All 11 sectors are trading higher along with the S&P/ASX 200. The Utilities and A-REIT are the top 2 gaining sectors, higher 4.13% and 3.09% in their index values.

1. Some key U.S. indices ended higher, and some ended lower in their previous session. NASDAQ Composite ended higher by 0.01%, NASDAQ-100 closed higher by 0.11%, Dow industrial up by 0.28%, and S&P 500 ended higher by 0.10%.
2. Oil prices rose following the U.S. winter storm fears that millions of Americans might restrain travel plans during the holiday season.
3. TC Energy Corp has submitted its plan to U.S. regulators to resume the Keystone pipeline. The pipeline was shut after it spilled 14,000 barrels of oil in rural Kansas on December 07.
4. The yen rose to a four-month high against the U.S. dollar after a surprising tweak by the Bank of Japan to its bond yield control program.
5. New Zealand consumer confidence fell to a record low amid the central bank raising borrowing costs and predicting a recession next year.
6. Hang Seng is down by 1.33%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.13%.
