1. Key U.S. indices ended higher in their previous session. NASDAQ Composite, NASDAQ-100, Dow industrial, and S&P 500 gained 1.01%, 1.09%, 0.30%, and 0.73%, respectively.
2. A survey by the Bank of Japan showed that sentiment among major Japanese manufacturers grew worse in the fourth quarter amid rising cost pressures. However, the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions boosted sentiment in the services industry.
3. Wall Street closed higher in the previous session after an unexpectedly slight consumer price increase increased optimism that the Federal Reserve could soon slow the pace of interest rate hikes. Still, concerns remained the central bank could stay aggressive.
4. Gold prices hovered near a six-month high today after a sharp rally in the previous session as market participants waited for the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates later in the day and also weigh in on easing inflationary pressures.
5. Oil prices climbed to $80 per barrel in the previous session and recorded its major daily gains in over a month, as investors bought up risk assets after U.S. data pointed to slowing inflation.
6. Hang Seng is up by 0.68%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.76%.
