RBA aiming to return inflation to the 2% to 3% target range

Sep 16, 2022

Since February 2022, Australia witnessed significant surge in the interest rate from the extremely low levels during the pandemic. RBA pointed that the cash rate has been amplified by a cumulative 2.25 percentage points and now stands at 2.35%.

Like inflation, the interest rate has also increased larger and faster, than was previously anticipated. RBA understands the damaging impact of rising interest rate on Australian economy. As the inflation rate is high, the aim would be that inflation returns to goal in reasonable time. RBA stated that low & stable inflation is a precondition for a robust economy and a constant period of full employment. High inflation impacts the economy, deteriorates inequality and lessens people's savings. At the same time, high inflation makes it very problematic to sustain, or rise, real wages. Because of these reasons, RBA is dedicated to returning inflation in the target range of 2% to 3% over time.
