Australian Government disaster payments to roll out from today

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that Australian Government disaster payments will be rolled out from today to eligible residents in 23 local government areas affected by extreme storms and flooding. These storms and floods continue to impact large areas of Metropolitan Sydney as well as east coast of New South Wales.

The one-off, non-means tested Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment of AU$1000 per eligible adult and AU$400 per eligible child would be given to people residing in the local government areas and have experienced significant losses due to flood including a severely damaged or destroyed home or a serious injury.

The Disaster Recovery Allowance would be provided to support employees and sole traders who experienced loss of income due to this disaster.  Disaster Recovery Allowance is payable for a maximum 13 weeks and is taxable.
