Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher; Goodman Group Rockets on $14 billion Datta Centre Deal

On 23 December 2025, at AEDT 12.30 PM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 43.00 points or 0.49%, and is currently trading at 8,742.90 levels. Out of 11, 9 sectors are trading higher along with the gain in the S&P/ASX 200.

The A-REIT and Information Technology sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 2.83% and 0.72% in their index values. On the other hand, Utilities and Consumer Staples sectors are the top 2 declining sectors, declining 0.60% and 0.15% in their index values.

Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) and Austal Limited (ASX: ASB) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 7.392% and 4.704% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Capricorn Metals Ltd (ASX: CMM) and EVT Limited (ASX: EVT) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 2.538% and 2.472% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

  • The Australian share market started Tuesday on a firmer footing, with the Santa Claus rally building pace after robust gains on Wall Street, driven by revived optimism around US interest rate cuts.
  • Property stocks led the market higher, with Goodman Group jumping 7.39% after announcing a $14 billion European data centre partnership. The equal-share joint venture includes an initial $3.9 billion investment to develop facilities in Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris.
  • Tabcorp slipped 1% after advising the market that Macquarie Group had emerged as a substantial shareholder, having built a 5.01% stake as at December 17.
  • Ramsay Health Care added 1.7% after announcing plans to buy the assets and operations of Canberra’s National Capital Private Hospital from Healthscope’s receivers for $251 million.
  • The Dow Jones closed up by 0.47%, S&P 500 gained by 0.64% and Nasdaq was up by 0.52% in the previous session.
  • Hang Seng is up by 0.43%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.32%.
