S&P/ASX 200 Closed Sharply Lower; Gold Tops US$3100

By the end of the trading session on 31 March 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 1.74% and settled at AU$7,843.40. All 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200. The Materials and Energy sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 3.35% and 2.68% in their index values.

Orora Limited (ASX: ORA) and Deep Yellow Limited (ASX: DYL) were the top gainers, with 4.444% and 3.414% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Pilbara Minerals Limited (ASX: PLS) and Zip Co Limited (ASX: ZIP) were the top losers, with an 8.175% and 7.737% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Orora Limited advanced after clarifying that French regulators had engaged with its subsidiary Saverglass for an investigation into price increases. The probe followed complaints from the French beverage industry, including a “small number” of Saverglass customers.

  • Hang Seng is down by 1.51%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.08%.
