S&P/ASX 200 Closed Lower by 0.09%, Dragged down by A-REIT

By the end of the trading session on 24 July 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.09% and settled at 7963.70. Out of 11 sectors, 8 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

Materials and Financial are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.39% and 0.15% in their index values. On the other hand, A-REIT and Energy were the top-losing sectors, losing 1.58% and 1.09% respectively in their index values.

Red 5 Limited (ASX: RED) and Emerald Resources NL (ASX: EMR) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.410 % and 6.020% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX) and Flight Centre Travel Group Limited (ASX: FLT) went down by 7.189% and 4.738% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Pilbara Minerals shares rose 0.9% after rallying 5% earlier when it recorded a 58% jump in revenue to hit AU$305 million for the June quarter, according to the lithium exporter’s latest trading update.
  • Flight Centre tumbled 3.6 per cent after it revised its underlying profit before tax guidance to between AU$316 million to AU$324 million for FY24. The travel company said the change excluded AU$4 million in losses from the closure of its Discova Central Americas destination management business.
  • Perpetual dropped 1% after its assets under management fell to AU$215 billion as of June 30, compared to AU$227.4 billion at March 31. The asset manager said it had been impacted by “several” institutional clients redeeming money.
  • The energy sector was the worst performing sector as oil fell for a fourth straight session, the longest losing streak since early June to settle below US$77 a barrel.
  • The Dow has closed down by 0.14%, the S&P 500 closed down by 0.16%, and the NASDAQ ended lower by 0.05%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.94%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.38%.
