S&P/ASX 200 Closed In Green Today; DEG Gained By More Than 29%

By the end of the trading session on 02 December 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.14% and settled at AU$8,447.90. Out of 11 sectors, 7 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the only gaining sectors, gained 0.91% and 0.87% in its index value. On the other hand, the Healthcare and Utilities sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 0.40% and 0.08% in their index values.

De Grey Mining Limited (ASX: DEG) and Gold Road Resources Limited (ASX: GOR) were the top gainers, with 29.605% and 9.383% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Northern Star Resources Limited (ASX: NST) and Netwealth Limited (ASX: NWL) were the top losers, with a 5.255% and 5.002% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • De Grey Mining Limited’s shares gained by more than 28% after Northern Star has agreed to buy DEG for $5 billion, as the soaring gold price sparks consolidation across the sector.
  • GQG Partners fell 14% to $2.02 after UBS downgraded the stock to “neutral” and slashed its price target by 30 per cent. The move comes as the investment business faces mounting pressure about its investment in Indian conglomerate Adani, whose billionaire founder Gautam Adani has been indicted by US prosecutors.
  • Oil prices has risen along with Asian equities on signs of a slow recovery in China’s economy as traders look to Thursday’s OPEC+ meeting for further direction.
  • The Dow has closed up by 0.42%, the S&P 500 closed up by 0.56%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.83%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 0.36%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.07%.
