By the end of the trading session on 03 April 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.94% and settled at 7,859.70. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Consumer Staples and Healthcare are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.27% and 0.23% in their index value. On the other hand, Information Technology and Energy are the top-losing sectors, losing 2.87% and 2.72% in their index value.

Ramelius Resources Limited . (ASX: RMS) and Spartan Resources Limited (ASX: SPR) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 5.217% and 4.371% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Ansell Limited (ASX: ANN) and Liontown Resources Limited  (ASX: LTR) went down by 14.336% and 12.500% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Ansell Limited (ASX: ANN) recorded the biggest loss on the index, plunging 13.9%. The medical equipment manufacturer, a key exporter to the US, is transitioning its production away from China.
  • Cettire Limited (ASX: CTT), an online luxury fashion retailer, tumbled 12% after cautioning investors that it may need to raise prices in its primary US market due to new tariffs on European-made goods.
  • Treasury Wine Estates Limited (ASX: TWE) slipped 2%, despite assuring investors that the new tariffs would have a "minimal" effect on earnings, as only 15% of its American business involves imported wines from outside the US.
  • Galan Lithium Limited (ASX: GLN) surged 38.1% after the battery minerals company rejected a $150 million takeover offer.
  • Oil prices declined as Trump's newly imposed tariffs on key trading partners, including China and the European Union, raised fears of weaker crude demand.
  • US stock markets had mixed performances, with the Dow Jones rising 0.56%, the S&P 500 up 0.67%, and the NASDAQ climbing 0.87%.
  • Asian and European markets faced declines, with the Hang Seng falling 2.01% and the FTSE 100 down 0.30%.
