Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.91%, Dragged Down by Utilities

By the end of trading session on 04 November 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.91% lower at 8,813.70. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Healthcare was the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.03% in its value. On the other hand, Utilities and Materials were the top-losing sectors, losing 2.78% and 1.83% in their values.

Droneshield Limited (ASX: DRO) and NextDC Limited (ASX: NXT) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 8.616% and 4.235% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) and Eagers Automotive Limited (ASX: APE) are the top-losing stocks, losing 5.912% and 5.433% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Southern Cross Media Group (ASX: SXL) rose 3.6% to 86¢ after independent expert Kroll backed its proposed merger with Seven West Media (ASX: SWM), describing the deal as “fair and reasonable” and beneficial for Southern Cross shareholders. Seven West Media shares remained steady at 14¢.
  • Light & Wonder, Inc. (ASX: LNW) advanced 3.5% to $116 after submitting documents to U.S. regulators as part of its plan to withdraw from Nasdaq and transition into a solely ASX-listed entity.
  • Novonix Ltd (ASX: NVX) tumbled 10.6% to 51¢ following news that FCA US, a subsidiary of Stellantis, had terminated a key offtake agreement with the company, effective immediately.
  • City Chic Collective Ltd (ASX: CCX) surged 8.8% to 8¢ after reporting strong trading momentum during the first 18 weeks of FY2026, with Australia–New Zealand sales up 10% year-on-year, which helped offset a 21.1% decline in the U.S. market.
  • Crude oil prices eased after a four-day rally, as traders reassessed OPEC+’s decision to pause production increases scheduled for early next year.
  • On global markets, investor sentiment remained mixed. In the U.S., the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.48%, while the S&P 500 added 0.17% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.46%. 
  • In Asia, the Hang Seng Index was down 0.43%, and in Europe, the FTSE 100 edged 0.16% lower.
