ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.68%, Dragged down by Consumer Discretionary

By the end of the trading session on 25 February 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.68% and settled at 8,251.90. Out of 11 sectors, 07 ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Utilities and Consumer Staples are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.60% and 0.31% % in their index value. On the other hand, Consumer Discretionary and Information Technology is the top-losing sector, losing 2.66% and 1.58% in their index value.

Helia Group Limited (ASX: HLI) and ZIP Co. Limited (ASX: ZIP) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 17.148% and 13.865% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Johns Lyng Group Limited (ASX: JLG) and Viva Energy Group Limited (ASX: VEA) went down by 33.422% and 26.875% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Wall Street saw a broad decline, with the Dow Jones falling 1.69%, the S&P 500 dropping 1.71%, and the NASDAQ sliding 2.20%.
  • In international markets, the Hang Seng index dipped 0.89%, while the FTSE 100 remained flat at -0.00%.
