ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.50%, Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 01 November 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.50% and settled at 8,118.80. Out of the 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Healthcare and Financial are the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.03% and 0.92% in their index value. On the other hand, Energy and Materials are the top-losing sectors, losing 1.00% and 0.15 in their index value.

Champion Iron Limited (ASX: CIA) and Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 4.436% and 3.654% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Genesis Minerals Limited (ASX: GMD) and Healius Limited (ASX: HLS)  went down by 4.898% and 4.532% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Oil prices surged, rising more than $1 per barrel, amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions following reports of Iran potentially planning a retaliatory strike on Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days.
  • The Dow closed down by 0.22%, the S&P 500 declined by 0.33%, and the NASDAQ dropped by 0.49%.
  • The Hang Seng index fell by 1.55%, and the FTSE 100 was down by 0.73%
