ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.11%, Dragged down by Energy

By the end of the trading session on 07 February 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.11% and settled at 8,511.40. Out of 11 sectors, 05 ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Consumer Staples are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.53% and 0.51% % in their index value. On the other hand, Energy and Healthcare is the top-losing sector, losing 1.45% and 1.03% in their index value.

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP) and Collins Food Limited (ASX: CKF) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 21.303% and 12.685% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Yancoal Australia Limited (ASX: YAL) and Beach Energy Limited (ASX: BPT) went down by 5.776% and 5.209% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Sigma Healthcare (ASX: SIG) rose 3.2% to $2.92 after upgrading its full-year EBIT guidance, citing growth from its Chemist Warehouse supply deal. Its merger with Chemist Warehouse is set to be finalized this month. 
  • REA Group (ASX: REA) gained 2.8% to $262.12, continuing a two-day rally after Morgan Stanley reaffirmed its overweight rating, following strong earnings with 20% year-on-year revenue growth. 
  • News Corp (ASX: NWS) dropped 3.8% to $54.14, as profit-taking followed a previous rally, despite Morgan Stanley maintaining an overweight rating. 
  • Oil prices remain under pressure, heading for a third weekly decline, as concerns over China tariffs affecting demand outweigh the impact of new U.S. sanctions on Iran. 
  • Wall Street closed higher, with the Dow Jones rising 0.71%, the S&P 500 gaining 0.39%, and the NASDAQ edging up 0.19%. 
  • In international markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 0.93%, while the FTSE 100 advanced 1.21%, reflecting a positive global sentiment.
