ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.05%, Dragged down by Telecommunications Services
By the end of the trading session on 22 May 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.05% and settled at 7,848.10. Out of 11 sectors, 06 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.
Utilities and Industrials sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.90% and 0.49% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Telecommunications Services and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top-lossing sector, lossing 2.54% and 1.37% respectively in their index values.
Webjet Limited (ASX: WEB) and Technology One Limited (ASX: TNE) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 7.701% and 6.621% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Eagers Automotive Limited (ASX: APE) and Inghams Group Limited (ASX: ING) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 15.013% and 5.760% in their stock prices.
Technology One shares rose by 6.6% to $17.86 after analysts, including those from Wilsons, upgraded their valuations on the software group.
Telix Pharmaceuticals shares increased by 2.5% to $15.78 following its annual general meeting, where the company confirmed plans to list on the Nasdaq index.
Consumer lender Plenti reported a 36% rise in net profit to $6.1 million, with revenue reaching $211 million for the financial year ending March 31.
British consumer prices increased by 2.3% year-on-year in April, surpassing forecasts of a 2.1% rise.
Oil prices dropped by 1% in the previous session due to persistent U.S. inflation, which is expected to keep interest rates elevated, affecting fuel demand.
The Dow closed up by 0.17%, the S&P 500 increased by 0.25%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.22%.
The Hang Seng is down by 0.05%, and the FTSE 100 is down by 0.09% today.
