ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.04%, Dragged down by Utilities

By the end of the trading session on 23 August 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.04% and settled at 8,023.90. Out of 11 Sectors, 06 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Telecommuncations Services and Healthcare are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.63% and 0.58% in their index value. Utilities and Energy are the top-losing sectors, losing 1.34% and 1.14% in their index value.

Fisher& Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited (ASX: FPH) and IPH Limited (ASX: IPH) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 11.985% and 6.578% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Inghams Group Limited (ASX: ING) and Spark New Zealand Limited (ASX: SPK) went down by 20.155% and 7.398% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

• Jumbo, the lottery operator, boosted its dividend by 26.7% and anticipated significant profit growth, yet its shares dropped 16.2% to close at AU$13.40.
• Guzman y Gomez, the burrito chain, saw its shares reach an all-time high of AU$35 before settling with a 3.5% gain at AU$34.71.
• OPEC is unlikely to reverse last year's production cuts, despite rising output from non-OPEC countries, which is putting downward pressure on prices.
• The Dow Jones declined by 0.43%, while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ fell by 0.89% and 1.67%, respectively. 
• Meanwhile, the Hang Seng decreased by 0.38%, and the FTSE 100 edged up by 0.06%.
