Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.45%, Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 09 April 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.45% and settled at 7,824.20. Out of 11 sectors, 07 closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Materials and Utilities sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.48% and 0.99% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, A-REIT and Healthcare sectors were the top-losing sectors, losing 0.95% and 0.64% respectively in their index values.

Liontown Resources (ASX: LTR) and Elders Limited (ASX: ELD) were the top gainers, with 8.823% and 7.671% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Audinate Group Limited (ASX: AD8) and Nanosonics Limited (ASX: NAN) were the top losers, with 4.489% and 4.256% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Santos dropped 2% to $7.69 due to its $15 billion LNG project in Papua New Guinea facing delays, with the final investment decision pushed to next year.
  • Ansell surged 6.5% to $25.43 following its $400 million placement at $22.45 per share, aimed at funding the acquisition of a Kimberly-Clark Corporation division.
  • After a 24% fall on Monday due to a trading update, Elders saw a 7.7% increase to $8 per share.
  • According to a NAB Business survey, business conditions and confidence remained stable in March.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.80%, the S&P 500 by 1.11%, and the NASDAQ increased by 1.24%.
  • The Hang Seng Index went up by 0.70%, while the FTSE 100 saw a gain of 0.41%.
