ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.37%, Lifted by Information Technology

By the end of the trading session on 14 November 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.37% and settled at 8,224.00. Out of 11 sectors, 07 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Financial are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.82% and 1.37% in their index value. On the other hand, Materials and Healthcare are the top-losing sectors, losing 1.16% and 0.60% in their index value.

Nufarm Limited (ASX: NUF) and Xero Limited (ASX: XRO) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.010% and 5.849% in their stock prices. On the other hand, West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) and Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP) went down by 7.383% and 5.918% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • The explosives manufacturer edged up 0.1% to $17.58 after recording a full-year net profit of $525 million, with earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rising by 15% to $806 million.
  • The farm chemical supplier saw its shares jump 6% to $3.88 after its FY24 results exceeded expectations. Despite a 29% decline in underlying EBIT, the company’s performance was still better than anticipated.
  • Shares dropped by 2.9% to $8.59 following a slump in net profit to $62 million for FY2024, down from $250 million the previous year.
  • Shares rose 3.2% to $2.80 as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission raised concerns over its proposed acquisition of the City of Melbourne’s waste business, Citywide.
  • US consumer prices rose in line with expectations, providing the Federal Reserve with the data to justify lowering interest rates by 25 basis points when policymakers meet in December.
  • Bitcoin reached a record high, climbing above $US93,000 ($143,420) for the first time, fueled by excitement over President-elect Donald Trump’s rhetorical support for cryptocurrency.
  • The Dow Jones rose by 0.11%, the S&P 500 increased by 0.02%, while the NASDAQ dipped by 0.26%.
  • The Hang Seng fell by 1.38%, while the FTSE 100 in the UK gained 0.06% at the time of writing.
