ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.33%, Lifted by Energy

By the end of the trading session on 07 November 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.33% and settled at 8,226.30. Out of 11 sectors, 05 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Energy and Industrials are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 2.29% and 1.01% in their index value. On the othet hand, A-REIT and Utilities are the top-losing sectors, losing 2.14% and 0.64% in their index value.

Sigma Healthcare Limited (ASX: SIG) and Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: NEU) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 24.935% and 8.515% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Westgold Resources Limited (ASX: WGX) and Bellevue Gold Limited (ASX: BGL)  went down by 8.388% and 7.667% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Sigma Healthcare Surge: Pharmaceutical wholesaler Sigma Healthcare (ASX: SIG) soared 25% to close at a record high of $2.43 after receiving approval from the Australian competition regulator for its merger with Chemist Warehouse.
  • Steadfast Group Acquisition Boost: Financial services provider Steadfast Group rose 1.5% to $5.56 after announcing the acquisition of London-based insurance broker HW Wood and HWI France for £23.5 million (approximately $46 million) in debt and cash.
  • Quickstep Holdings Takeover Offer: Aerospace manufacturer Quickstep Holdings nearly doubled in price, reaching 38¢, following a takeover bid of 40¢ per share from one of its major clients, ASDAM Operations.
  • Neuren Pharmaceuticals Gains: Biopharmaceutical company Neuren Pharmaceuticals saw the highest gains on the index, rising 8.5% to $14.44 after forecasting FY2024 revenue between $216 million and $218 million.
  • Australian Dollar Recovery: The Australian dollar bounced back to US66.04¢ at midday on Thursday, following a 24-hour period in which it had dropped to a three-month low.
  • U.S. and Global Market Performance: The Dow closed up by 3.57%, the S&P 500 increased by 2.53%, and the NASDAQ gained 2.93%.
  • Hang Seng index dropped 2.23% and the FTSE 100 saw a slight decrease of 0.07%.
