ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.30%, Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 13 September 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.30% and settled at 8,099.90. Out of 11 sectors, 05 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and A-REIT are the top- gaining sectors, gaining 2.25% and 1.07% in their index value. On the other hand, Telecommunications Services and Financial are top- losing sectors, losing 0.61% and 0.56%  in their index value.

Perseus Mining Limited (ASX: PRU) and West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 10.212% and 10.108% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Arcadium Lithium PLC (ASX: LTM) went down by 6.294% and 5.745% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Atlas Arteria (ASX: ALX) surged 2% to $5.01 after initiating a compensation claim against France over a proposed “truck” tax.
  • Namoi Cotton (ASX: NAM) soared 4.4% as Olam Agri, based in Singapore, increased its takeover offer to 75¢ per share, up from 70¢.
  • US Treasury yields rallied, particularly in shorter-term bonds, as investors weighed the potential for a 0.5% interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve next week.
  • The Commonwealth Bank stated that the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) is unlikely to deepen supply cuts due to concerns over revenue losses.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.31%, the S&P 500 fell 1.07%, while the NASDAQ gained 2.17%.
  • The Hang Seng Index dropped 0.73%, and the FTSE 100 decreased by 0.15%.
