ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.14%, Lifted by Utilities

By the end of the trading session on 24 February 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.14% and settled at 8,308.20. Out of 11 sectors, 06 ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Utilities and Financial are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 3.24% and 1.89% % in their index value. On the other hand, Information Technology and A-REIT is the top-losing sector, losing 6.84% and 2.18% in their index value.

EVT Limited (ASX: EVT) and NIB Holdings Limited (ASX: NHF) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 12.884% and 12.457% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Wisetech Global Limited (ASX: WTC) and Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) went down by 20.091% and 14.477% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Gold remained near last week’s record high, as weak economic data and increasing inflation expectations fueled safe-haven demand.
  • Global markets showed mixed movements: The Dow Jones dropped 1.69%, the S&P 500 fell 1.71%, and the NASDAQ declined 2.20%. 
  • The Hang Seng lost 0.76%, while the FTSE 100 dipped 0.04% at the time of writing.
