ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.10%, Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 27 September 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.10% and settled at 8,212.20. Out of 11 sectors, 03 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and Consumer Staples are the top- gaining sectors, gaining 2.78% and 0.91% in their index value. Whereas, Healthcare and A-REIT are the top-losing sectors, losing 1.32% and 0.97% in their index value.

Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN) and The A2 Milk Compnay Limited (ASX: A2M) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 13.934% and 8.885% in their stock prices. On the other hand, The Star Entertainment Limited  (ASX: SGR) and Fletcher Building Limited (ASX: FBU) went down by 44.445% and 6.015% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • GQG Partners (ASX: GQG) experienced a 2.4% drop to $2.81 after receiving a $725,000 penalty from the U.S. regulator for breaching whistleblower protection regulations.
  • De Grey Mining Limited (ASX: DEG) rose 3.4% to $1.385, refuting a media claim regarding a bid offer from Canada’s Agnico Eagle.
  • Oil prices fell over 3% on Thursday (Friday AEST) after a Financial Times report indicated that Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest crude exporter, would abandon its $100 price target while planning to increase output alongside OPEC members and allies in December.

  • The Hang Seng Index surged by 4.16%, while the FTSE 100 saw a modest increase of 0.20%.
