ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.76%, Lifted by Telecommunications Services

 By the end of the trading session on 26 August 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.76% and settled at 8,084.50. Out of 11 Sectors, 08 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Telecommuncations Services and Financial are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.25% and 1.23% in their index value. Consumer Staples and Healthcare are the top-losing sectors, losing 0.85% and 0.25% in their index value.

Deep Yellow Limited (ASX: DYL) and Pladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 17.000% and 11.819% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Kelsian Group Limited (ASX: KLS) and NIB Holdings Limited (ASX: NHF) went down by 23.753% and 17.745% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Endeavour Group, a pub and bottle shop operator, indicated a slowdown in sales during the first seven weeks of the new financial year, causing its shares to decline by 6.9% to $5.15.
  • Aussie Broadband declared a 4¢ dividend as full-year revenue increased by 26% to $99.9 million, and profits rose by 21% to $26.4 million, leading to an 11.9% rise in shares to $3.49.
  • Tyro Payments' shares surged 12.2% to $1.10 after the company quadrupled its profits to $25.7 million in FY24.
  • Online retailer Kogan.com returned to profitability in the 2024 financial year and announced a final dividend of 7.5¢, pushing shares up by 11.8% to $4.85.
  • Global oil inventories, particularly in the US, have significantly tightened, reaching their lowest levels in nearly two years.
  • The Dow Jones closed up by 1.14%, the S&P 500 increased by 1.15%, and the NASDAQ ended 1.47% higher. 
  • The Hang Seng Index rose by 0.79%, and the FTSE 100 climbed by 0.48% today.
