ASX 200 Ends Week At 9-Month High And Closed At 7,452.20
By the end of the trading session on 20 January 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.23% and settled at 7,452.20. Out of 11 sectors, 7 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.
The Energy and Materials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.40% and 0.86% respectively in their index values. The Telecommunications Services and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined 0.91% and 0.50% respectively in their index values.
Pilbara Minerals Limited (ASX: PLS) and Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX: WHC) were the top gainers, with 13.184% and 6.159% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Nanosonics Limited (ASX: NAN) were the top losers, with 8.334% and 6.641% drop in share prices, respectively.
S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.23% to 7,452.20 led by the Energy and Materials sectors by 1.40% and 0.86% respectively.
Oil prices rose further today, as optimism over an eventual recovery in Chinese demand ahead of the Lunar New Year.
Gold prices cool after a strong rally amid resurgent safe haven demand and growing uncertainty over the path of U.S. monetary policy.
Most Asian currencies fell today; the Chinese yuan fell 0.1%, the Taiwan dollar fell by 0.4%, and the Japanese yen sank by 0.5% and was also among the worst-performing Asian currencies this week, with a loss of 0.8%.
Liontown Resources Limited fell 8.333% after warning that higher costs at its Kathleen Valley site will take spending to the first production from the process plan to AU$ 895 million.
Pilbara Minerals Limited rose more than 13% following its quarterly update.
Dow has closed down by 0.76%, S&P 500 down by 0.76%, and NASDAQ ended lower by 0.96%.
The Hang Seng is up by 1.58%. and the FTSE 100 is down by 1.07%.
