ASX 200 Ended Lower By 0.27%; Amid Geopolitical Tensions

By the end of the trading session on 16 November 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.27% and settled at 7,122.20. Out of 11 sectors, 8 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

The Energy and Materials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.18% and 0.67% in their index values. On the other hand, the Utilities and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 1.47% and 1.27% in their index values.

Nufarm Limited (ASX: NUF) and Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR) were the top gainers, with 8.856% and 6.695% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) and De Grey Mining Limited (ASX: DEG) were the top losers, with a 9.524% and 9.196% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Aristocrat Leisure Limited’s share price declined despite the company’s profit after tax jumped 27% to $1.1 billion in the FY22, led by North American gaming operations and global sales, despite supply chain disruptions and mixed operating conditions across key markets.
  • The Energy sector’s heavyweights jumped. Whitehaven Coal was up 5.8% and New Hope was 4.1% higher. Woodside advanced 1.4%, but Santos Energy closed flat.
  • Nufarm Limited’s share price jumped by more than 8%, following the company has reported 24% gain in the full year earnings.
  • Dow has closed up by 0.17%, S&P 500 up by 0.87%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 1.45%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 4.11%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.21%.
