ASX 200 Ended Higher By 1.44%; Buoyed By Energy And Materials Sectors
By the end of the trading session on 29 September 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.44% and settled at 6,555.00. All 11 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200. The Energy and Materials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 3.21% and 2.54% in their index values.
Premier Investments Limited (ASX: PMV) and Coronado Global Resources Limited (ASX: CRN) were the top gainers, with 14.610% and 8.074% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) and Cromwell Property Group (ASX: CMW) were the top losers, with a 17.301% and 1.482% drop in share prices, respectively.
S&P/ASX 200 closed higher, tracked recovery on Wall Street in the previous session as a dollar rally paused, but concerns over rising interest rates and a looming recession kept the outlook dim.
Premier Investments shares gained more than 14% after it posted its full-year result that beat analysts’ expectations and announced a special dividend and a share buyback plan.
Iress Limited’s share price declined after the company has downgraded its profit guidance just days before chief executive Andrew Walsh leaves the role.
The Australian government 10-year bond has dropped to 3.95% as investor appetite for global bonds returns on the back of an emergency move by the Bank of England to support U.K. gilts.
Oil prices fell today after gaining more than $3 in the prior session, with a strong dollar capping oil demand and concerns over the faltering global economic outlook clouding market sentiment.
Dow has closed up 1.9%, S&P 500 up by 2.0%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 2.1%.
Hang Seng is down by 0.32%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.30%.
