Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Ended Higher By 1.02%; Lifted By Materials Sector

By the end of the trading session on 12 September 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.02% and settled at 6,964.50. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.16% and 1.52% in their index values. On the other hand, the Healthcare sector was the only declining sector, declined by 0.26% in its index value.

Nickel Industries Limited (ASX: NIC) and Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB) were the top gainers, with 6.703% and 5.814% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Tyro Payments Limited (ASX: TYR) and Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) were the top losers, with a 5.091% and 4.256% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • The materials sector was the top performing sector; BHP Group increased 3.46% to $39.41, Rio Tinto gained 1.78% to $96.040, and Fortescue Metals up by 3.31% to $18.400.
  • Nickel Industries Limited has gained as the company has upgraded its resource estimate in Indonesia’s Hengjaya mine. Measured resources have more than increased, and indicated resources lifted 20%.
  • Liontown Resources declined 3.048% following the company announced that it has signed a Letter of Award with Zenith Energy Pty Ltd for the supply of power to the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project in WA for a period of 15 years.
  • U.K.’s economy grew 0.2% in July, from June, missing forecasts of a 0.4% gain.
  • After a volatile week, oil prices are lower today as traders gauged concerns over slowing demand and U.S.-led price caps on Russian crude exports.
  • Dow has closed up 1.2%, S&P 500 up by 1.5%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 2.1%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 2.69%, and FTSE 100 is up by 1.23%.
