ASX 200 Ended Higher By 0.39%; 10 Out Of 11 Sectors Closed Higher
By the end of the trading session on 03 March 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 28.20 points and settled at 7,283.60. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sector closed higher along with the ASX 200.
Telecommunication Services and Healthcare sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gained 0.86% and 0.59% respectively in their index values. The A-REIT sector was the only declining sector, declined 0.27% in its index value.
Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS) were the top gainers, with 13.194% and 5.583% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD) and Capricorn Metal Limited (ASX: CMM) were the top losers, with 5.767% and 3.971% drop in share prices, respectively.
The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) increased by 0.39%, mainly due to mining and energy stocks gaining on the belief that China's economic recovery would result in an upsurge in demand.
Qantas experienced early gains but ultimately remained flat. The airline plans to hire pilots, cabin crew, and engineers, adding up to 8500 staff over the next ten years.
In an ex-dividend trading session, Ampol was the biggest index decliner, falling by 5.1%. On Friday, Dalian iron ore futures hit an eight-month high, driven by optimistic fundamentals and predictions of future steel demand.
While oil prices dropped slightly due to concerns over increasing interest rates, renewed confidence in the Chinese demand boosted prices, resulting in robust weekly gains.
The Dow climbed by 1.05%, the S&P 500 by 0.76%, and the NASDAQ by 0.73%.
Today, the Hang Seng rose 1.11%, and the FTSE 100 increased by 0.37%.
