ASX 200 Ended Higher By 0.30%; 10 Out Of 11 Sectors Closed Higher
By the end of the trading session on 24 February 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.30% and settled at 7,307.00. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.
The Information Technology and Industrial sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gained 2.39% and 1.40% respectively in their index values. The Materials Sector was the top declining sector, declined 1.22% in their index values.
BEGA Cheese Limited (ASX: BGA) and Brambles Limited (ASX: BXB) were the top gainers, with 7.530% and 7.456% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Regis Resource Limited (ASX: RRL) and Perpetual Limited (ASX: PPT) were the top losers, with 4.762% and 4.239% drop in share prices, respectively.
Shares of Block surged approx. 5% on Friday as the company reported that After pay has experienced strong growth in January and February, with sales up by 19%.
Brambles shares also saw an increase of 7.4% to AU$12.97 following its first-half net profit increased 9% to US$331.1 million, and revenue climbed 7% to US$2.93 billion for continuing operations.
Oil prices rose for the second consecutive day, reducing a minor weekly loss, ahead of US data that could impact the discussion around monetary policy.
The Dow increased by 0.33%, the S&P 500 rose by 0.53%, and the NASDAQ ended the day higher by 0.72%.
Hang Seng decreased by 1.42% and the FTSE 100 was down by 0.29%.
