By the end of the trading session on 21 September 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 1.37% and settled at 7,065.20. All the 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.
Energy and Financial sectors were the top- declining sectors, gaining 1.96% and 1.76% respectively in their index values.
Link Administration Holdings Limited (ASX: LNK) and Data #3 Limited (ASX: DTL) were the top gainers, with 2.952% and 2.722% growth in share prices, respectively. Sayona Mining Limited (ASX: SYA) and Weebit Nano Building Limited (ASX: FBU) were the top losers, with 11.429% and 4.803% drop in share prices, respectively.
Transurban experienced a 3.7% decline in its stock price after the ACCC blocked its attempt to acquire Melbourne's EastLink toll road.
The ACCC also expressed concerns regarding BSW operator Endeavour Group's proposed acquisition of Rye Hotels, causing a 1% drop in its shares, which now stand at $5.21.
Brainchip's stock witnessed an 11.1% decrease, further exacerbating its significant losses earlier in the week, following its removal from the S&P/ASX 200 on Monday.
In the realm of oil markets, there are indications of tightening conditions as stockpiles at the largest US storage hub are rapidly approaching critical levels.
The Dow closed with a 0.22% decrease, the S&P 500 saw a 0.94% decline, and the NASDAQ ended the day with a 1.53% reduction.
Meanwhile, the Hang Seng reported a decline of -1.16%, while the FTSE 100 experienced a positive upswing of 0.93% during the trading session.
