ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.96%, Dragged down by Healthcare
By the end of trading session on 29 October 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.96% lower at 8,926.20. Out of 11 sectors, 07 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.
Materials and Energy were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.15% and 0.52% in their values. On the other hand, Healthcare and Industrials were the top-losing sectors, losing 2.31% and 1.97% in their values.
Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) and Nick Scali Limited (ASX: NCK) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 19.811% and 12.716% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Droneshield Limited (ASX: DRO) and Austal Limited (ASX: ASB) are the top-losing stocks, losing 12.211% and 7.095% in their stock prices.
Nick Scali Limited (ASX: NCK) jumped 12.7% to $25.35 after reporting a strong start to FY25, with first-quarter sales across Australia and New Zealand lifting total written orders by 11.6%.
Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) rallied 19.8% to $1.91, boosted by momentum in uranium markets following the U.S. government’s US$80 billion (A$121.4 billion) plan to expand nuclear power generation through new reactor construction.
Woolworths Group Limited (ASX: WOW) edged 2.4% higher to $27.61, even as its $18.5 billion quarterly sales came in below internal expectations. Year-on-year revenue still rose 2.7%, with CEO Amanda Bardwell noting that the retailer remains focused on improving customer engagement and operational performance.
Cash Converters International Limited (ASX: CCV) declined 7.1% to 32 cents after completing a $15.74 million institutional placement, part of its broader capital-raising program.
The Australian dollar strengthened to a four-week high of US$0.6607 after a hotter-than-expected inflation report, prompting traders to scale back expectations for a near-term rate cut.
Overnight, U.S. equities advanced, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.34%, the S&P 500 rising 0.23%, and the Nasdaq Composite gaining 0.80%.
In Asia and Europe, performance was mixed — Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 0.33%, while London’s FTSE 100 added 0.44% amid improved investor sentiment.
