ASX/200 Closed lower by 0.13%, Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 04 March 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.13% and settled at 7,735.80. Out of 11 sectors, 07 closed lower along with the ASX 200.

A-REIT and Information Technology sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.54% and 1.93% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Healthcare and sector Utilities was the top-losing sector, losing 0.81% and 0.77% respectively in their index values.

West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) and Genesis Minerals Limited (ASX: GMD) were the top gainers, with 7.777% and 7.594% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Healius Limited (ASX: CKF) and Pro Medicus Limited (ASX: PME) were the top losers, with 3.847% and 3.560% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Downer EDI defended itself against a pending shareholder class action, attributing some accounting irregularities to KPMG, the auditor. Shares of Downer EDI fell by 1.2% to $4.96.
  • Genex Power, a small-cap company, experienced a significant surge of 32.4% to 24.5¢.
  • J-Power, a major Japanese energy utility, made a $375 million bid to acquire a Queensland renewables developer.
  • Fletcher Building's shares declined by 2% to $3.85 after chairman Bruce Hassall accelerated his departure from the troubled building materials firm. Barbara Chapman will serve as acting chairwoman until a successor is appointed.
  • The Dow Jones closed up by 0.23%, the S&P 500 ended higher by 0.80%, and the NASDAQ saw a rise of 1.14%.
  • The Hang Seng index dropped by -0.08%, while the FTSE 100 increased by 0.69% during the trading session.
