Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 1.74%; Lifted By IT and Consumer Discretionary Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 05 October 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.74% and settled at 6,815.70. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 3.63% and 2.53% in their index values. On the other hand, Consumer Staples was the only declining sector, declined by 0.045% in its index value.

Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX) and Hub24 Limited (ASX: HUB) were the top gainers, with 11.646% and 9.710% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Sayona Mining Limited (ASX: SYA) and Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS) were the top losers, with a 7.844% and 4.862% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Australian Share Market closed higher, tracked Wall Street, and extended the biggest share market rally in two years after the RBA surprised investors by slowing the pace of interest rate rises.
  • US Treasury bond rates slumped on the expectation that the US Federal Reserve would back down from its hawkish tilt.
  • Wall Street extended its gains for a second straight day after softer US economic data and a smaller-than-expected interest rate increase by the Reserve Bank of Australia stirred hope that the Federal Reserve might temper its aggressive rate rises.
  • Oil prices are slightly lower today after gaining more than 3% in the previous session ahead of a meeting of OPEC+ producers to discuss a big cut in crude output.
  • Dow has closed up 2.6%, S&P 500 up by 2.6%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 3.2%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 6.06%, and FTSE 100 is up by 2.57%.
