Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 1.65%, RBA Increased Cash Rate By 0.25%

By the end of the trading session on 01 November 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.65% and settled at 6,976.90. All 11 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200. The Materials and Utilities sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.64% and 2.53% in their index values.

Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) and Nickel Industries Limited (ASX: NIC) were the top gainers, with 11.428% and 7.534% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Chorus Limited (ASX: CNU) and Brickworks Limited (ASX: BKW) were the top losers, with a 3.548% and 2.260% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • S&P/ASX 200 closed higher as the Reserve Bank of Australia has increased the cash rate by 0.25%, which is in line with the market expectations.
  • Iron ore plunged more than 7% on Monday to touch its lowest since early 2019, extending a long route as factory data in China added to demand pessimism.
  • Brickworks Limited’s share price declined as the company trades at ex-dividend today.
  • The Reserve Bank of Australia raised interest rates as expected but also hiked its inflation forecast and trimmed its GDP outlook as it flagged more economic headwinds from increased price pressures and rising rates.
  • Oil prices trimmed recent losses today after OPEC raised its medium to long-term demand forecasts and said it stood ready to help stabilize prices if markets required it.
  • Dow has closed down by 0.4%, S&P 500 down by 0.8%, and NASDAQ closed lower by 1.0%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 3.81%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.66%.
