Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 1.29%; buoyed By Materials and Energy Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 20 September 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.29% and settled at 6,806.40. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Materials and Energy sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained by 2.67% and 1.99% in their index values. On the other hand, the A-REIT and Healthcare sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 0.53% and 0.08% in their index values.

New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX: NHC) and Brickworks Limited (ASX: BKW) were the top gainers, with 8.791% and 5.753% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Abacus Property Group (ASX: ABP) and Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX) were the top losers, with an 2.214% and 2.124% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • AMP Limited’s share price declined 2.1% to $1.18 after it was hit with a $14.5 million penalty in a Federal Court decision that found it charged super fund members a fee without service.
  • Lithium stocks extended their gains after carbonate prices hit a new record of 500,500 yuan (US$71,315) a tonne in China.
  • Dow has closed up 0.6%, S&P 500 up by 0.7%, and NASDAQ closed up by 0.8%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 1.07%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.62%.
